The Spartan Godfather | God of War

Square

A drink that has a little something for everyone without compromising on uniqueness, the Spartan Godfather is an homage to the bicultural god-killing team that is the Greek Kratos and his Nordic son, Atreus.

You’ll need:

  • 1 1/2 oz dry mead (or honey wine)
  • 3/4 oz vodka
  • 1/4 oz raspberry cordial
  • 1/4 oz lemon juice
  • 2 dash orange bitters

Add all ingredients to a mixing glass filled with ice. Stir briefly to chill. Strain into a chilled Martini glass. Garnish with an orange twist (optional). Serve!

“Boy! Fetch the mead, and that strong clear drink your mother was so fond of sipping in the evenings. I am thirsty…” – Kratos, Greek God of War

Both Nordic and Ancient Greek people enjoyed mead (the Greeks eventually making their way into wine), making the Spartan Godfather a good combination for the father and son team of Kratos and Atreus.

For the mead, I used First Night Honey Wine.

This drink starts out sweet and fruit-forward before developing into something a little more sour and citrus-y, then rounding out with the dry, earthy honey flavour that is easily the most unique and interesting part of this beverage.

Much like the God of War franchise itself, it develops from something simple and sweet into a well-rounded, sophisticated and above-all adult libation.

Once you’ve mastered the Spartan Godfather, why not try one of the variations below?
