Winter Veil Egg Nog | World of Warcraft

Square

Warm your bones this Feast of Winter Veil with an ultra-simple egg nog recipe that even a novice cook can craft.

You’ll need

  • 2 oz bourbon, spiced rum or brandy
  • 1 oz single cream
  • 0.5 oz simple syrup
  • 0.5 oz vanilla liqueur
  • 1 small egg
  • Nutmeg

Add all ingredients except the nutmeg to a shaker filled with ice. Shake thoroughly to chill. Discard ice and shake again vigorously. Pour into your vessel and dust with nutmeg. Serve!

“I have a pretty good idea what ol’ Greatfather Winter’s gonna be doing when this shift is over. I got a bottle of Winter Veil cheer right here in my bag, and I intend to get to the bottom of it.”

– Great-father Winter

Back during the halcyon days of Warcraft Vanilla, Winter Veil was the event. It was more exciting than a Warsong Gulch victory and more satisfying than finally getting enough gold for your first mount. Well, almost. And the best part? All the extra content. Everybody could enjoy it, from level 1 to level cap.

New quests, new items, new crafting recipes. Even the poor neglected Cooking masters got something to mess around with. Gingerbread cookies, hot spiced mead… and, of course, it wouldn’t be a Christmas-analogue without an eggnog recipe. And now you can make it in real life as well.

The recipe presented during WoW’s Winter Veil event is simple. That makes it unique among modern egg nog recipes. There are plenty of excellent recipes out there that will result in rich, delicious results – but require an enormous amount of preparation and hard work beforehand.

Not so with the Winter Veil Egg Nog recipe. All you really need is milk, eggs, spices and holiday spirit (literally, that’s what the booze component is called). In recreating the recipe in real life, I decided to embrace that simplicity, and go for a drink that even the most ill-prepared adventurer could make in a pinch on Christmas Day.

With cream instead of milk and the addition of simple syrup & vanilla liqueur, it’s not strictly to the World of Warcraft recipe, but I won’t tell if you won’t. Forget the grind of a long maturing period for your eggnog. This recipe is good to go, right now, right away, and while it might be simple, it isn’t lacking in depth – much like World of Warcraft itself.

Happy Winter’s Veil everyone, and cheers!
