Blue Milk | Star Wars

Square

Looking for a cold drink to alleviate the hot winds of Tattooine? Look no further.

You’ll need

  • 1.50 oz (45ml) gin
  • .75 oz (20ml) blue curacao
  • .50 oz (15ml) lemon juice
  • .25 oz (10ml) simple syrup
  • Egg white
  • Soda water

Add all ingredients except the egg and soda water to a shaker filled with ice. Shake thoroughly to chill. Discard ice. Add egg and shake again until foamy, about 30 seconds to a minute. Strain into a Collins glass. Top up with soda water. Add a straw and serve!

“If you’re a f*ckin’ fair dinkum, f*ckin’ full grown Jedi, this is what you’d have for breakfast; a f*ckin’ Blue Milk, LONG NECK, at 20 to 8 in the f*ckin’ mornin’. Get that up ya.”

Bo Gan Gin, Jedi Master.

Ah, blue milk: the product of such a small and innocuous scene in A New Hope that it feels odd that it’s become so iconic. Luke, quietly sitting down for a meal with his aunt and uncle, pours himself a nice, tall, frosty glass of blue cow juice and boom: a meme is born.

It’s become a major part of the Star Wars universe, from the movies to the comics to the games, making an appearance (even if only mentioned briefly) in huge hits like The Old Republic and Jedi Academy.

If you ever wanted a household name to turn into an easily recognisable cocktail, blue milk is it.

In this alcoholic version, we’ve take a standard silver gin fizz formula and added a splash of blue curacao for a more interesting orange liqueur flavour and, of course, for the colour.

The egg helps to give the drink that thicker mouthfeel you expect of milk, without making it too cloying like an alcoholic milkshake might. Honestly, this is a very refreshing drink—perfect for a hot planet like Tatooine—and it has all the protein that a growing Jedi like Luke needs.

Trust me, the work in shaking it is worth it. Farmboy tested, Jedi approved. Hope you enjoy!
