When you get that feeling, you need, Green Herb healing…

You’ll need

  • 2 oz (60ml) gin
  • .50 oz (15ml) apple liqueur
  • .50 oz (15ml) lime juice
  • 6-8 mint leaves
  • 3 cucumber slices

Add all ingredients to a mixing glass and muddle gently. Strain into a shaker filled with ice. Shake vigorously to chill. Strain into your vessel.

“Leon! Come on, we’ve got to get out of here, that thing is… Why are you chewing on that potted plant?”

It’s really weird seeing the remaster of Resident Evil 2. Looking back on the graphics of the original just makes me realise how important suspension of disbelief and imagination was in old school horror games.

If you pulled a modern-day kid away from Fortnite and sat them down to play the original Resident Evil games—titles where you could physically count the pixels onscreen—they would think you were mad for ever thinking this was a sp00ky title.

And yet it was, even if it was ugly as sin compared to today’s standards. The zombies might’ve been blocky and the environments might’ve been pixelated, but that didn’t stop you from jumping when a zombie dog unexpectedly took a chunk out of your leg.

Getting hurt in the game was psychological damage as much as it was physical. But thankfully, you could always rely on a certain little herb to patch up your wounds and make you feel safe—if only for a short time before the blocky zombies come after you again.

And that’s the item I’ve brought to the real world today with a cucumber and mint infused gin drink called, appropriately, the Green Herb.

This drink is all about freshness. The mint and cucumber dominate, with the gin providing a backbone of herbal flavours. The apple liqueur and the lime, meanwhile, grant it a little bit of sweet and sour zing that really enhances the cool, clearing, calming flavour.

It’s a cocktail that almost tastes healthy—just don’t expect it to do anything against a festering zombie bite…
