Scorpion Sting | Just Cause

Square

Wingsuiting across the map and blowing up the bad guys works up a fierce thirst. Sit back and take a load off with this Margarita riff inspired by the hero of Just Cause: Rico Rodriguez.

You’ll need

  • 1 1/2 oz tequila blanco
  • 1/4 oz lime
  • 1/4 oz triple sec
  • 1/2 oz apple juice
  • Arak

Add a splash of arak to a glass and swirl it briefly, then throw out the remaining liquid. Add all other ingredients to a shaker filled with ice. Shake briefly to chill. Strain into your arak-washed glass, filled with ice. Garnish with a lime wedge. Serve!

“Ah… the taste of home. Just needs a little sprinkle of Bavarium dust to complete the flavour.”—Rico Rodriguez, upon first taste testing the Scorpion Sting.

Rico Rodriguez is an interesting guy. I don’t just mean the fact that he blows things up for a living, I mean that his whole background is… eclectic, to put it mildly.

Rico is a man of multiple worlds. He was born in Mexico, grew up in the Mediterranean, and worked for an American spy agency. He’s funny, but also brutal; immature, but scary, and even the developers describe him as “the child of one thousand comic books and action movies”, that he is “James Bond, Mad Max, Jason Bourne, El Mariachi, Wolverine, Punisher, Rambo, Tony Montana and Han Solo all rolled into one—with a touch of Enrique Iglesias to top it all off”.

It only seems fitting that any drink inspired by Just Cause (and therefore Rico) should be just as eclectic; just as much a mix of multiple worlds.

We start with a baseline Margarita (tequila, lime and triple sec): one of the most popular cocktails in the United States.

The fact that it contains tequila, the national spirit of Mexico, covers Rico’s place of birth too.

We then throw in a wash of arak—a popular Mediterranean anise-based liquor—for some spice and for Rico’s home of Medici.

And the apple juice? The apple juice plays the most important role of all: balancing out all the other flavours with oxidized fruit goodness and a little extra dash of sweetness.

Multiple worlds, one man, one drink—and perfect for sitting in the afterglow of another dictatorship toppled. Here’s to Rico. Cheers!
