The Refillable Potion | League of Legends

Square

When I was asked to recreate a potion from League of Legends, there was a cynical part of me that just wanted to slam down a shot of seawater and name this salty shot after the kinds of people you meet in random matches. But thankfully for everyone involved, myself included, the Refillable Potion proved far more interesting a challenge.

Here’s how to make it:

You’ll need:

  • 2 parts vodka
  • 1 part creme de menthe
  • 0.5 parts blue curacao
  • Fresh egg white

Method

  1. Combine all ingredients in a shaker without ice.
  2. Shake vigorously to combine.
  3. Add ice, and shake again for about 20 seconds.
  4. Strain into your potion vessel, ensuring you get some of the creamy egg white on top.

Perhaps contrary to the name, this creamy, minty drink is best sipped slowly after a meal. You know when people drink peppermint tea to help their digestion? This is the same idea, though it still won’t help you swallow the absolutely shocking ability of your teammates in your last ranked match.

As you sip this, you’ll notice a decent level of thickness on your tongue, helped along by the egg white. If you are vegan (or simply don’t like the idea of eating raw egg), you can substitute this with the water from a can of chickpeas, also known as aquafabaThis does everything that egg whites do structurally, making the drink opaque and thick, and still avoids adding the taste of hummus to your minty drink.

One last note: be careful with the amount of blue curacao you add. This was an important addition in order to get the teal colour of the potion correct, but add too much and you’ll find yourself with a drink closer to cyan than you’d like.

Happy drinking, and good luck in your next match!
