Wyldsap from Armello

A maple, nut and bourbon treat to keep the powers of the Rot at bay.

Ingredients

  • 2 oz bourbon (I used Wild Turkey)
  • 0.5 oz maple-pine nut orgeat
  • 2 dashes Angostura bitters

Instructions

  • Add all ingredients to a mixing glass filled with ice.
  • Stir thoroughly to chill.
  • Strain into your vessel.
  • Garnish with greenery.
  • Serve!

Notes

To make the maple-pine orgeat:
Add half a cup of pine nuts to a frying pan. Gently heat until the pine nuts are brown and toasted. You’ll smell it once they’re done!
In a small saucepan, combine half a cup of maple syrup and half a cup of water. Heat gently to combine. Do not boil.
Add the toasted pine nuts to the maple-water mixture and heat gently for 10 to 20 minutes. Taste regularly. Once nutty, strain the mixture into a heatproof bowl and allow to cool in the fridge, preferably overnight. Then use in this recipe.

Armello is full of curious, magical things. Swords, shield, armour and magical staves, weapons designed to fight other players, guards, and eventually the King himself. But the thing that might truly save your character in this wolf-eat-wolf world is Wyldsap: a bubbling amber healing liquid that will save your life in a pinch or build up your power during a tough fight, drawing on the strength of the Wyld itself to empower your strikes.

Got too much maple syrup? No such thing! You might want to try the Spirit Light from Ori and the Blind Forest next.

In recreating Wyldsap, I went back to Armello’s roots: literally. The drink is described as being drawn from great, old trees, which immediately makes me think of maple syrup. Combined with a touch of mild nuttiness from the pine nuts, some savoury from the Angostura and a broadbacked bourbon to carry it all, it ends up being a sweet (but not too sweet) cocktail that you can’t help but feel healed after.

Enjoy it in moderation, however, lest the Rot decide to take an interest in you. Cheers!
